Who Are the Mennonites?

Mennonites are Christians (who love Jesus, follow his teaching, live in the forgiveness he made possible and experience the power he gives through the Holy Spirit to transform their lives). In particular, Mennonites derive from a part of the reformation known as Anabaptists or ‘the radical reformation’. Discipleship, mutual support, following Jesus hard teaching on loving enemies and concern for justice and right living have been particularly important for Mennonites. Read about Dirk Willems, an Anabaptist who loved his enemy and paid with his life.

In 1996 the Mennonite Church affirmed a new Confession of Faith from a Mennonite Perspective which is available on the web.

Mennonites take their name from a priest, Menno Simons, who spent much of the 16th century travelling the Netherlands, preaching, teaching and encouraging other Anabaptists, and by God’s grace escaped arrest from both Protestant and Roman Catholic authorities.

For more information about Mennonites and their organisations, see the MennoLink Mennonite Information Centre.

For more information about Anabaptists see the Anabaptist Network.

In the U.K. prior to 20 March 2016 there were two English-speaking Mennonite congregations. The former Wood Green Mennonite Church in North London no longer meets for worship and is in a state of transition intothe online network MennoNet UK. At present this exists as a closed facebook group. In the future, it may take additional or alternative forms.. For more information please see this update. For further details contact WGMC.

There is another English-speaking Mennonite congregation in the village of Ashton-on-Clun, on the border with Wales.

(The above was amended on 23rd March 2016 to reflect WGMC’s recent histor,  on 24th March 2016 to fix inconsistencies of style and two broken links and on 12th June 2016 to link in MennoNet UK.)

  1. Neat blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple adjustements would really make my blog jump out. Please let me know where you got your design. Bless you

Dear Johanne. I’m not quite sure I understand your question. Did you mean what did we use for our blog, in which case the answer is wordpress. If you wanted a more technical answer, I’ll need to get someone else to answer your question. Best wishes. Hazel

  2. Hey there this is somewhat of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
